[video!] ThrowBack to A Color-Full Storytelling event

I come from a family of storytellers. My dad is famous for his stories. His stories will have you laughing until you cry. My uncle too. My mother too. Her stories often have a profound message. I delight in these stories and I love watching my younger family members start to tell own stories.

So, this February, when I had the opportunity to tell my story, I did. I participated in a storytelling event a friend was putting on hosted by The Open Center. The idea of the event was stories about the experiences of people of color.

I thought about it for a while.

What story should I tell? What would be a good story to convey who I am and what matters to me? What is the story that helps explain my passion both for storytelling and for education?

I landed in an older story. One that happened almost 30 years ago--but one that is also happening today. It's the story about the first time I realized that we really do need to talk.

What's your story?
